On my first day of walking — before restaurants were closed and public gatherings of 10 or more people were banned — I walk in Vitruvian Park. Before I take more than a few steps, a photographer appears, positioning a large wedding party of nine bridesmaids and groomsmen plus the bride and groom.

I stand at a respectable social distance watching the men in tuxedos with their hair slicked back, seven of the bridesmaids in long, flowing, burgundy dresses and two others in a pale shade of mauve. The mostly Hispanic crowd jokes back and forth, taking silly poses. The buxom bride and her handsome groom kiss for the camera, gazing at each other with heartfelt emotion — full of hope.
